Black Savanna: Afghan heritage in a near-pure indica

Black Savanna by Black Elephant Genetics is one of our own house genetics, bringing together three families of Afghan tradition: Afghani, a traditional variety from the mountains of Afghanistan highly prized for its resin; Northern Lights, one of the most influential indicas of all time; and Ortega, an indica of Northern Lights lineage known for its generous yields. The result is a feminized, virtually pure indica (95%): compact, with dense flowers and an intensely sweet aroma of spices and incense.

Indoor cultivation

Develops a 60-90 cm plant with a compact indica structure and short internodes, very well suited to intensive setups. It yields up to 600 g/m² after 50-60 days of flowering. We recommend topping (apical pruning) during the growth stage to multiply the side branches and shape a wide, even plant that makes the most of the light. For maximum results, use a high-quality airy substrate, check the pH regularly (6.0-6.5 in soil), keep good ventilation in the final weeks, when the flowers gain density, and install an activated carbon filter to keep its aroma in check.

Outdoor cultivation

Outdoors it can reach up to 2.5 m and yield up to 850 g per plant. It performs especially well in temperate and warm climates such as the Mediterranean and is harvested in late September, allowing it to finish ahead of the autumn rains in many areas. Topping also helps here by spreading the weight across more branches; in humid areas, keep good airflow between branches during ripening.

Aroma and flavour

A deep, enveloping profile, true to its Afghan roots: an intense sweetness dominates from the start, joined by warm spices and an incense background reminiscent of the traditional varieties from the mountains of Afghanistan. An aroma that grows stronger in the final weeks of flowering.

Should I top it?
Yes. Indoors we recommend topping (apical pruning) during the growth stage: the plant develops more side branches, opens up and spreads the light better, which results in a more even harvest.

How much indoor space does it need?
With a final height of 60-90 cm, it fits well in standard 80x80 or 100x100 cm grow tents, whether with a few topped plants or in more intensive setups.

How should I store them until sowing?
In a cool, dry and dark place, ideally in the fridge inside an airtight container. This preserves their germination power for a long time.
