Y Griega: a long-flowering sativa with an incense and sweet fruit aroma

Y Griega (German Fem Line) by Black Elephant Genetics is a sativa for patient growers. It comes from crossing Amnesia Haze, a haze with Asian, Jamaican and Afghan roots famous for its spicy profile, with Kali Mist, a tall, sparsely leaved sativa line of Asian heritage. The result is a sativa-dominant (80%) feminized strain with thin leaves and long internodes, forming long, spear-shaped, resin-laden colas and an incense aroma over a sweet, fruity base.

Indoor cultivation

Indoors it reaches 1-1.60 m, and it gains much of that height in the first weeks of flowering, when it stretches hard. That is why it pays to switch it to flowering early, train it with LST and set up a SCROG net before the stretch: its branches then spread horizontally and every cola gets the same light. After 11-12 weeks of flowering it can yield up to 500 g/m². It prefers moderate feeding, without excess nitrogen that would push leafy growth, a pH of 6.0-6.5 in soil and low, stable humidity in the final month, with good air exchange between the colas.

Outdoor cultivation

Outdoors it is a large plant: it reaches 2.5-3 m and can yield up to 600 g per plant. Its 11-12 week flowering means it ripens very late in the season, so climate decides success. It performs best in warm, dry, Mediterranean-type areas with long, sunny autumns and no early frosts. In regions with cool, rainy or often foggy autumns, a greenhouse or indoor grow is the better choice; if you grow it outside, pick an open, very airy spot sheltered from rain and give it firm staking to hold up its tall branches.

A classic sativa profile that evolves through flowering: spicy incense is the lead note, over an earthy base of wood and soil. On top comes a gentle sweetness and a fruity, almost citrusy touch that lightens the whole. When you rub a stem or open the flowers, the spices intensify and the finish is clean and lasting.
