Grandaddy Purple: the purple California classic with a grape aroma

Grandaddy Purple (German Fem Line) by Black Elephant Genetics revives one of the great purple classics of California, popularised in the San Francisco Bay Area. It combines the colour and fruity character of Purple Urkle with the structure and yield of Big Bud, a line known for its large, heavy flowers. The result is a feminized, indica-dominant (70%) strain: compact, with dense, resinous flowers and an intense grape and forest fruit aroma.

Indoor cultivation

Develops a compact 70-120 cm plant with a strong central stem and short internodes. It responds well to LST and topping, which help expose more tops to the light, and its branches are best supported with stakes or a SCROG net once the flowers gain weight. It yields 450-500 g/m² after 8-9 weeks of flowering. For maximum results we recommend a high-quality airy substrate, regular pH control (6.0-6.5 in soil), clearing the lower branches to improve airflow and keeping humidity low in the final weeks, when the flowers are at their densest.

Outdoor cultivation

Outdoors it reaches 120-150 cm and can yield between 550 and 600 g per plant. It performs best in mild, sunny climates, in a spot that gets direct sun for much of the day, and is harvested in October. Cool autumn nights can deepen its purple hues; in areas with humid autumns, choose a well-ventilated spot and check the inside of the flowers during ripening.

Aroma and flavour

A sweet, very fruity profile: ripe grape dominates from the start, joined by notes of forest fruits. Underneath comes a touch of pepper and a slightly earthy base that balances the sweetness and gains depth in the final weeks of flowering.
