Its coloration varies between a bright lime green and a very dark blackish green. The largest leaves have up to 13 leaflets.

For its part, the Indica type of plant has a much wider and larger leaf, as well as, in general, it has a smaller number of leaflets than the Sativa, between seven and nine leaflets. This kind of leaf is very intense olive green, although sometimes there are very light green colorations, although these are rare cases and it is often a sign that there is some nutritional deficiency.

Ruderalis variety

Finally, in the Ruderalis variety, the leaves are commonly smaller than the other subspecies, since the mature plant is generally smaller, and the largest leaves can contain from five to thirteen leaflets. Ruderalis leaves are in standard terms closer to Indica in width, however they tend to be much narrower than any Indica leaf would normally be.

Thus, as can be seen, despite the three main sub-types, the marijuana leaf maintains its essentially characteristic shape, being fully recognizable to the naked eye in any of its variants.

The marijuana leaf, in addition, has numerous uses, such as those that we will now suggest.

First of all, the marijuana leaf is essential to check the health of the plant. A yellow or brown coloration can denote problems with the source of light and heat, the pH of the water with which you irrigate it or nutrition.

On the other hand, the marijuana leaf has many culinary uses, being able to be used to consume in infusions, butter, soy or almond milk, pastries, salads, among many other foods or dishes. If you want to know recipes with marijuana visit our post on this topic, although in the link that we add we leave you a small preview.

Marijuana Utilities

One of the utilities of marijuana that are advancing the most today is the medical use of the plant, for which obviously the marijuana leaf itself is also very useful. In this sense, due to the fact that the leaf has much less THC than the buds, a new technique for consuming medical marijuana called “juicing” is becoming increasingly consolidated. This technique consists of literally making cannabis juices, which are highly nutritious and possess all of its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and neuro-protective qualities. This can benefit us from them without the need to be smoked or vaporized, and without side effects.

Another purpose for which the marijuana leaf is used is cosmetics, thus, ointments or creams can be created, taking advantage of a coconut oil base (also almond or castor oil for example) and adding the cannabis component to the final product , which can be applied both for therapeutic and aesthetic purposes, with good results both on the skin and on dry lips or hair.

Is the marijuana leaf smokable?

Finally, we cannot close this article without addressing the million dollar question that every cannabis grower asks himself: Can the marijuana leaf be smoked?

To answer this question, first of all it must be taken into account that the marijuana plant has both genders: Male and female.

The female marijuana plant, at the time of flowering, begins to produce the famous buds with a much higher amount of THC or psychoactive content than the male, so that in principle it is the one that is sought by the people who want consume it smoked.

Although the bud is commonly smoked, the marijuana leaf can also be dried and smoked. But the THC concentration of the leaf is much lower in the marijuana leaf than in said bud, in fact some consumers dry it, chop it and add it to the marijuana «cigarette». This is to give it a different flavor or increase its effects, replacing the tobacco with which many accompany the bud.

However, if you intend to consume the smoked marijuana leaf, be careful with the larger leaves if you have used fertilizers. Well, they accumulate more chemicals that can be harmful to your health.

In addition, one of the best ways to take advantage of marijuana in general, be it buds or leaves, is to use a marijuana resin extraction system. It makes it give more flavor and increase the effects, as this resin houses a higher concentration of THC.

All these ways of using and exploiting the marijuana leaf to the maximum are the ones that we propose, although there are many more options to use the marijuana leaf, as well as for decorative purposes, air fresheners, fragrances, clothing, etc.

So now you know, if you grow or plant marijuana, think carefully before discarding the leaf, you may be missing a world of possibilities.

At Madamegrow we are experts in organic fertilizers for your plant.
