Differences and Evolution of Social Acceptance or Legalization of the Use of Marijuana or Cannabis in Europe and the USA<\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n

Recently, several players of teams of the North American\u00a0<\/span>NBA<\/b>, the most important basketball league in the world, have pronounced themselves in favor of the\u00a0<\/span>legalization\u00a0<\/b>and consumption of\u00a0<\/span>marijuana or cannabis<\/b>, statements that jumped to the forefront of the world media, opening a social debate on the\u00a0<\/span>legalization\u00a0<\/b>and acceptance of its use, in all its aspects, but especially in the world of sport, not only because of their condition of sportsmen, but also because of the example they mean for millions of people, especially young people.<\/span>
\n\u00a0<\/span>
\nAmong those players are\u00a0Carmelo Anthony\u00a0<\/b>of the\u00a0<\/span>Houston Rockets<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/b>, or\u00a0Michael Beasley\u00a0<\/b>who is currently a player of\u00a0the Los Angeles Lakers<\/b>, or the retired,\u00a0Al Harrington\u00a0<\/b>or\u00a0Kenyon Martin<\/b>, the latter coming to affirm that 85% of\u00a0NBA\u00a0<\/b>players smoked marijuana or used it in some way.<\/span><\/p>\n

Even the NBA itself has long been considering legalizing it for therapeutic use as stated in this article from\u00a0<\/span>around the world<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Can you imagine European sports stars such as\u00a0<\/span>Cristiano Ronaldo<\/b>, former\u00a0<\/span>Real Madrid\u00a0<\/b>player and currently\u00a0<\/span>Juventus Turin<\/b>, or\u00a0<\/span>Lionel Messi<\/b>,\u00a0<\/span>FC Barcelona<\/b>player, or\u00a0<\/span>Kyliam Mbappe,\u00a0<\/b>recently world champion with\u00a0<\/span>France,<\/b>or\u00a0<\/span>Neymar,\u00a0<\/b>both players of\u00a0<\/span>Paris Saint Germaint<\/b>French, idols of thousands of teenagers, making statements or promoting the use of cannabis or marijuana, or saying that their teammates or themselves smoke\u00a0<\/span>\u00abmaria\u00bb<\/i><\/b>?<\/span><\/p>\n

The truth is that it seems difficult to us, this leads us to conclude, that the social evolution, mentality and acceptance of the use of the\u00a0<\/span>marijuana<\/b>, is quite a few years more advanced in the\u00a0<\/span>United States\u00a0<\/b>than in\u00a0<\/span>Europe<\/b>. But what are the reasons why\u00a0<\/span>the US\u00a0<\/b>is much more advanced in legalising the different uses of cannabis than in many more territories in the world, given the general globalisation that exists? Let’s see the evolution of the\u00a0<\/span>legalization and use of marijuana\u00a0<\/b>in these two territories of first world order,\u00a0<\/span>USA\u00a0<\/b>and\u00a0<\/span>Europe<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the\u00a0<\/span>U.S.\u00a0<\/b>at the beginning of the\u00a0<\/span>twentieth century, on the\u00a0<\/b>occasion of the immigration revolution from\u00a0<\/span>Mexico\u00a0<\/b>to the\u00a0<\/span>U.S.<\/b>, Mexican immigrants who moved to\u00a0<\/span>North America\u00a0<\/b>also moved the habit of smoking\u00a0<\/span>cannabis<\/b>, so that its use was spreading or normalizing to the rest of the\u00a0<\/span>U.S.\u00a0<\/b>population, which soon produced, spread a current illegitimate use of\u00a0<\/span>marihuan to\u00a0<\/b>be associated with the general social misperception of immigrants. From 1913 they were promulgating laws prohibiting the use of\u00a0<\/span>cannabis<\/b>, being the first state in legislating the prohibition of the\u00a0<\/span>marijuana\u00a0<\/b>California, following him some more, like Oregon, Arkansas, etc…<\/span><\/p>\n

Subsequently, and almost parallel to the implementation of the Dry Law, an animadversion was created by everything that\u00a0<\/span>\u00abdistorted the behavior of people\u00bb<\/i>, linking socially the use of\u00a0<\/span>marijuana\u00a0<\/b>to\u00a0<\/span>\u00abblacks\u00bb<\/i>, Mexicans and delinquency, among other negative things, so in 1937 was approved the\u00a0<\/span>MARIHUANA TAX ACT,\u00a0<\/b>the first law that prohibited the use of\u00a0<\/span>cannabis\u00a0<\/b>at the federal level.<\/span><\/p>\n

The repression against\u00a0<\/span>marijuana\u00a0<\/b>continued for many years with harsh measures and persecutions against everything related to it, not being until the beginning of the\u00a0<\/span>21st century<\/b>, when as a\u00a0<\/span>result of\u00a0<\/b>several popular initiatives, supported by several prestigious scientific studies that endorse its use and effectiveness, is when it began to normalize its application, beginning to extend or apply its use, first for therapeutic purposes, and later for recreational use.<\/span><\/p>\n

States such as Florida or Montana, have approved the medical use of\u00a0<\/span>marijuana\u00a0<\/b>or\u00a0<\/span>cannabis<\/b>, adding up to more than 30 states in which cannabis is permitted for these therapeutic purposes, having approved today, the recreational use of marijuana, in the following states:<\/span><\/p>\n
